No, but maybe yes...

Alright, so Jordan Gross coming to Pittsburgh WAS too good to be true. He signed a 6 year deal with Carolina earlier this week, which means that the Steelers will have a harder time finding an offensive tackle of his caliber. On the lighter side, there are some other potential veterans that could help with one in particular. Long time center for the Indianapolis Colts, Jeff Saturday, has reportedly not accepted the offer given to him by the Colts and will test free agency. He would bring an Alan Faneca-type leadership and productivity to the team. Saturday would give the team a solid center to mentor the younger talent on the team. I would love to see "Sixburgh" draft the center out of Penn State, A. Q. Shipley. A solid center and winner of the best center in college football for this past season, Shipley would bring a great sense of toughness to the line. From Moon Township, just outside of Pittsburgh, it would be a nice homecoming and I'm sure a dream come true. I mean, who wouldn't want to play for their home team when they grow up? Jeff Saturday would make a nice mentor, but there's still the chance he could stay in Indy. There's still hope even beyond that, because yet another veteran center could possibly become a free agent. Matt Birk of the Minnesota Vikings could become a free agent this off season and bring some veteran leadership to an offensive line in need. If I were head coach Mike Tomlin come draft day, I would move up. First, I would make a serious effort to get Jeff Saturday, who is indeed a better center than Matt Birk even though he will be 34 coming into next season. He still is one of the best in the game, and has a lot to bring to a team like the Steelers. Back to the draft, I would trade my first, fourth, and maybe a third from next year, for a top ten pick and try to get my hands on someone like Eugene Monroe from Virginia or Andre Smith of Alabama or even Jason Smith of Baylor. I'd head into the second round and get my hands on Shipley, who for some reason is considered the fourth best center? I will have a blog later on later round picks, but as for now, that's what I would do if I were Mike Tomlin, but I'm not, so hopefully he will do something to help protect the best money quarterback in football. He being Ben Roethlisberger.
